CERT
September 24, 2025

The meeting was held in the Township Municipal Building and began at 7:04pm.

Flag Salute

Present: Donna Apgar, Lisa Chammings, David Conklin, Syrene Crowell, Barbara Kimmich, Ronald Kimmich, Carol Kouba, Douglas McIntyre, Connie O’Grady, Ilene Schwartz, Vincent Troiano, John Tsadilas, Maureen Tsadilas, Michelle Vosper

The August Minutes were approved.

Old Business:
On October 7th, Maureen will meet with Stillwater officials to get a Basic CERT course approved.

Sussex County Day was a success. Thanks to those who helped at the CERT Table: John, Syrene, Connie, and Carol.

On September 28th, members of the Stillwater CERT participated along with Hopatcong CERT in a rail safety training. They learned, among other things, how trained are powered and how railcars are ordered for safety. Dough, Connie, Maureen, and John attended.

Maureen sent a request to Lisa to hold a CERT Basic Training Course in the Stillwater Community Center. The members in attendance approved spending up to $50.00 on snacks for course participants. If approved, classes will be held on November 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, and 16th. There will be no class held on November 13th. The 6th will be the day of the final exam and graduation.

Fairview Lake didn’t work out as a location for the Search & Rescue Training. We are still looking for alternatives.

The Stillwater Fall Festival is on October 11th. We have enough people to set up, but we need more to cover the remainder of the day.

New Business:
Jenn Minervino, formerly with Stillwater Recreation Commission, spoke about how she and Mayor Chammings would like to see CERT take over running the public talks presented by the Sheriff’s Department and Prosecutor’s Office. Typically, 10-15 people attend each session. We would be needed to make coffee and put out snacks. We would work with Hilary Manser, Sheriff Strada’s assistant, to schedule programs. We wouldn’t be needed in December or January, or whenever weather is bad.

Maureen did a presentation on CERT to the Paulinskill Lake Association.

JCP&L will do another Live Wire Training presentation at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

Stillwater Clean-Up Day is on Saturday, October 4th.

The members present tonight voted to spend up to $850.00 on first aid and emergency supplies.

Doug checked for prices for CERT jackets. He got a quote of $100 per jacket from Jersey Shirts and Design for jackets with printing on them.

There will be a Flu Shot Clinic in Stillwater on October 14th. We can assist individuals with paperwork. The clinic will run from 5p-7p, but we would need to be there around 4:30p to assist with set up.

There will be an EMS Training on September 27th in Highland Lakes. The topic is how to engage with patients after administering Narcan.

We received a few donations: $250.00 from Signature Safety (Willie Corbisiero’s employer) and $100.00 from Lorenna DaRocha.

The November CERT meeting will be held on the 19th and there is no December meeting.

HydroFlow Fire Protection is donating dinner for the October meeting.

Maureen handed out cookies with the CERT logo that were made by Lorenna DaRocha.

CERT’s new member, David Conklin, showed what he carries in his emergency pack as an EMT.

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:52 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Carol Kouba
