May 4, 2020 Regular Meeting

STILLWATER TOWNSHIP RECREATION COMMISSION

The regular meeting of the Stillwater Township Recreation Commission was held on May 4, 2020, 2020 at 7:04 pm via Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Commission Chairman Dawn Delaney with the Open Public Meetings Statement and the flag salute.

Members Present: Mrs. Connelly, Ms. Hess, Mrs. Stark, Mr. Sylvester, Mrs. Tosti, Mrs. Delaney

Alternates Present: Mrs. Beshada, Mrs. Gardner

Members Absent/Excused: Mr. Reilly

MINUTES

Motion by Mr. Sylvester, second by Mrs. Delaney that the minutes of the March 2, 2020 meeting be approved. Motion carried with 2 abstentions – Mrs. Connelly and Ms. Hess.

BILLS

The following bills were presented – Septicare. – April. – $165.00; BSN Sports (bases) $ 438.36; Garden State Fireworks (deposit) $ 2,000.00. Motion by Ms. Hess, second by Mr. Sylvester to approve the bills with the exception of Garden State Fireworks. This is to be held pending further information re: postponement of services until either fall or next year. Motion carried.

None with the exception of a few catalogs

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION – Agenda Items Only – 7:14 pm – none

AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA – none

SUB COMMITTEES

1. Clean Up Day – Amanda sent an email to all and announced on Facebook that this was cancelled. We are going to try to reschedule this year, if possible. If not, next year. Ms. Hess mentioned that there are several applications at the Town Hall to be picked up.

2. Stillwater Day – Mr. Scott suggested that we postpone from June and wait to see if possible to do in Sept. or Oct. Perhaps combining it with the Fall Festival due to the closure of all the parks, etc. We don’t have a confirmed date but it is usually around the Sat. closest to Columbus Day. Ms. Hess mentioned that they are not holding a Queen of the Fair. Suggestion is to hold off the pageant until next year as that is what the Fair is doing. All agreed.

3. Garage Sale Weekend – Mrs. Delaney and Ms. Hess work on it and will make sure it’s handled. It is possible that we could go ahead. The applications should be done just in case. There was discussion regarding the payment. Motion by Ms. Hess, second by Mrs. Connelly that there will be no charge this year due to the COVID pandemic. Motion carried.

4. Summer Camp – Due to the pandemic – we will hold off until our June meeting to make a decision on whether to hold camp or not.

*** In the middle of the meeting, a person named Dave Gordon attempted to join the meeting. He was admitted but was totally inappropriate and immediately removed from the meeting.

5. County/State Fair – nothing at this time

6. Decorating Contests – nothing at this time

7. Tree Lighting – location, etc. will be updated as time goes along

8. Field Use / Maintenance – Mr. Sylvester updated – a mtg on March 15 with Mr. Reilly and Mr. Sylvester, Josh (DPW), Oscar (Travel Rec) and Rob Ragazo to determine the field use. The fields are still not open to groups as yet. They are looking for team benches to be placed at Volunteer Field. They also discussed the fields and the lawn maintenance, etc. Mr. Sylvester asked Mr. Scott to have them reach out to the grass cutter to not leave the clumps of cut grass. Mr. Scott passed Stillwater Park and there was an organized game of people from out of town. He told them the park was closed. They complied and left.

9. Playground – nothing at this time.

OLD BUSINESS

.Field Use Applications – none

NEW BUSINESS

1. Fundraising – Mrs. Gardner – she is looking into a possible Classic Car Show at Veterans Park. She is waiting for information re: Insurance. Mayor Chammings instructed Mrs. Gardner to send an email to Lynda Knott so she can look into it. Mr. Sylvester reminded all that we discussed not having any vehicles on the grass. Other locations may be looked at.
2. Movie Night – Mrs. Tosti was to reach out to Hampton Township regarding a letter they sent us. No response as yet.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION – 7:43 pm – Mrs. Gardner – the DPW was inspecting the fields and noted that at Veterans Park, the stakes for the home plate and the inserts (prevent clay from getting in) in the bases were removed and thrown all over the field and a lot of golf tees stuck in the clay and in the grass all over. The new bases are all at Town Hall. Mr. Sylvester will check on the status of the entire order. There was a stake in place at home plate. The order was placed based on the inspection of the fields and the order was 2 pitchers mounds, 3 bases, and 1 home plate. This was an immediate order, we still need a second full set to be ordered yet. If the fields aren’t going to be used, then we shouldn’t install them and take a chance on vandalism. Let’s wait and see what is going on. In the meantime, we will get the equipment moved from the town hall and put into our trailer.

COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS

Ms. Hess – Being on the front lines everyday almost and seeing what I see, I am asking you all to please everyone stay safe, listen, self distance and be careful.
