OEM Report: Lisa Chammings
CERT Community Service Program was held on March 10th. It was presented by our OEM Lisa Chammings. It was well attended by CERT volunteers, but not so much by the Stillwater Residents. The beautiful weather was a huge factor. We will continue running the next 2 programs, but if resident attendance is low we may consider canceling the remainder of them. Thank you to the CERT volunteers who helped with set up and clean up.
On March 13th, Maureen held a meeting with Doug and Neil to discuss their responsibilities if CERT is called out in her absences. Accountability procedures, notification procedures, and necessary paperwork packets were handed out to each volunteer. Maureen sent out information on the necessary steps to follow if a volunteer must call out of a response during her absence. Any questions or concerns are to be sent to Maureen.
Maureen and Lisa spoke in detail about the CERT volunteer background checks as being necessary PRIOR to receiving CERT IDs. Maureen also spoke with Township CFO, Tammy, about the discussion. Tammy requested a copy of the CERT volunteer roster which was given to her at that time.
On March 15th, Maureen sent a plan to Lisa regarding a possible way to proceed with volunteer background checks. Maureen has split the volunteer list in half to allow for the Township Budget to be approved. This would cover the volunteers living in Stillwater Township for reimbursement. Volunteers not living within Stillwater Township will have to receive reimbursement through Maureen using contingency funds.
On March 16th, Maureen met with Kenneth and Neil at the Community Center to discuss the Helmet Safety Event that will be held on April 12th. We are including a road safety course for Motorcycle riders. Ken and Neil will report on this.
On March 19th, there was a State Evacuation Shelter Exercise. 7 CERT volunteers attended the exercise. Report will be given by volunteers who attended. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time and brought this valuable knowledge back to our team.
On April 12th, CERT will host the Helmet Safety Program presented by Avenues in Motion. This is a free event for anyone in the community. It will be held at the Stillwater Community Center from 12p-3p. If weather permits, this event will be held outside. Volunteers are needed, sign up sheet is available.
On April 18th, CERT will sponsor a First Aid/CPR event presented by the American Heart Association. It is open to Stillwater residents. It will be held at the Community Center from 8:30a-2p. Class size is limited to 20. Registration opened up on March 16th. Cost is $75 per person.
On April 22nd, the CERT meeting will begin at 6:30p. The ‘Stop the Bleed’ training will be held from 7p-8p.
Stillwater Clean Up Day will be on April 25th. Everyone will meet at the horse ring next to the recycling center on Fairview Lake Road. This will begin at 9am. CERT will earn $300. Volunteers are needed and sign up sheets are available.
On May 3rd there will be a Search & Rescue training with Ramapo K-9 unit and Hopatcong CERT. This is an event that was supposed to be in November 2025, but was rescheduled. It will be held at Veterans Memorial Park from 9a-12p.
Adjournment:
Respectfully submitted,
Maureen Tsadilas
CERT Program Coordinator
